Penetration of sulbactam and ampicillin into peritoneal fluid.
Twenty-five patients undergoing elective intraabdominal surgery received either 1 or 2 g of ampicillin together with 1 g of sulbactam intravenously before surgery. The peritoneal levels of the agent were measured. Both compounds penetrated peritoneal fluid readily; the mean percentage of penetration by ampicillin was 92%; that of sulbactam was 96%. After 1 g of each agent, the peritoneal levels...
متن کاملPenetration of sulbactam-ampicillin and clavulanic acid-amoxicillin into the pelvic peritoneum.
Sixteen patients were given single intravenous injections of ampicillin (0.5 g) with sulbactam (0.5 g), and 15 patients were given amoxicillin (1 g) with clavulanic acid (0.2 g) before elective laparoscopy. At 2 h after dosing, the concentrations of the four compounds in serum and in the peritoneal fluid from the Pouch of Douglas and the ratio of each combination reached levels shown to be effe...
متن کاملPenetration of ampicillin and sulbactam in the lower airways during respiratory infections.
We studied the penetration of ampicillin-sulbactam in the alveolar lining fluid (ALF) of eight patients after intravenous administration of 2,000 mg of ampicillin and 1,000 mg of sulbactam three times daily over 30 min. Bronchoalveolar lavage was performed on day 3, 30 min after the end of the morning drug administration. The mean penetration ratios (i.e., the ratios of the concentrations in AL...
متن کاملPenetration of clindamycin, cefoxitin, and metronidazole into pelvic peritoneal fluid of women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy.
A single dose of clindamycin, cefoxitin, or metronidazole was administered to each of 30 women. The mean concentration of cefoxitin in pelvic fluid at 1 h exceeded those of the other two drugs (P less than 0.007). Cefoxitin concentrations were inferior to those of the other drugs when compared with the published MIC for 90% of Bacteroides fragilis strains.
متن کاملTherapy of Candida peritonitis: penetration of amphotericin B into peritoneal fluid.
Candida albicans peritonitis developed in a 48-year-old man with a perforated gastric ulcer who subsequently was treated with intravenous amphotericin B. The drug penetrated well into the inflamed peritoneal cavity and eradicated the organism from the peritoneal fluid. Nevertheless, at post-mortem, Candida organisms were demonstrated in a gall-bladder empyema and within the gall-bladder wall. B...
